Packing Up The Years

Our house was built in 1980, just your standard 3 bedroom/two bath ranch house in the suburbs of Dallas. The original owners stayed 7 years, and kept the place pristine. We inherited the owners manuals to everything that came with the house.

We moved in the summer of 1987 when Matthew was 10, and Alison just about to start kindergarten at age 5. Her room was decorated in peach tones. His unfortunately had been the baby’s room. I’m sad to say it stayed decorated that way for far too long. Ali’s room is now our guest room. Matt lives in his, which got painted dark navy blue at one point.

I thought it was my dream house. The home inspector told us if we didn’t buy it, that he would! That clean and well maintained!!

I think Jim Porter decided to buy it because I loved it so much!

Fast forward to today. It is nowhere near as well maintained. We gave up on doing our own yard work years ago. We put in a deck and above ground pool, our only improvements. Pool maintenance has been an expensive struggle.

Yes, we have recarpeted probably three times. Painted inside and out once, needs it again. We chose rust for the den, not a trendy decorating idea any more. Wallpaper is original in kitchen as seen in photo of Riley in the comments, and there are curtains to match. The whole house seems dated. Tile in hallway is from 1980.

More importantly, Jim and I were 36 in the summer of 1987. This summer, we turn 69!!!

So, Jim and I decided to seriously start sorting through the stuff we collected living here for 33 years. And I decided to use this space to track my progress, and share any interesting finds.
