My Perspective of Trying to Figure Out Modern Life

After Reading the price of modern life is depression and loneliness by Hugh Mackay I will give my response to what modern life could mean for me and others. I do see the pit falls of digital technology during the modern life and it can affect us all. For me I grew up in between were having fun was done outside like playing football outside with friends but there so many thing to enjoy inside. For me It was playing video games on my game boy advance SP and PlayStation 2 a lot. Even when I played videogames my mom would only let me play on the weekends because during the week school work was put first. Also not getting a cell phone until I was 13 years old which was a basic flip phone that could just make calls because I was going into high school.

The reason I mention these things because when I was growing there was a slow progression receiving all these Different items at certain times. Where now whether you’re an adult, kid or teenager all this advancement coming at everyone at once. It Does not seem to end once one new device comes out another is right around the corner. All the new device are great but it can impact people negatively as well. For example I use YouTube a lot because there are so many video I can watch from different section like from what in your home section, to what trending and what you subscribe to and with all you can watch on YouTube I will go down YouTube Rabbit hole for hours. All those video at times can really distract me from being more in the present and having face time with people around me.

Another thing I have notice when I was in elementary school the teacher would tell us to quiet down the class because everyone was talking to their friends around them in the class room but by Junior and senior year of high school that change to the teacher telling the students to put way all your cell phones away and if I see it then it become my phone for the day. Overall I do see what Hugh Mackay is saying about the modern life and how technology has really change way all people interact with each other. I think we have just reminded are self that it great to have are own space with technology but also have time for the people who are present in are lives now.
