A Voice for US by US

I believe newspapers are still relevant in the digital age because not everyone is a millennial or Generation Z. We have grandparents that grew up reading newspapers and most times some things don’t change. Once people are accustomed to a certain way of doing things, it takes a lot for that to change overnight. I believe newspapers are still relevant because they still have certain traditions that could not be found within a digital newsletter. For example, my grandmother enjoys the crossword puzzles she finds in our Mississippi Newspaper. Subscribing to digital newsletter does not give the same benefits of a traditional newspaper. I believe that it is still relevant because there are still multiple people that read it daily.

Black-owned and operated newspapers serve as a voice for the community because it is being told through our perspective. Most of the huge newspapers and media sites only give a certain vision of the story which is why it is imperative to have someone tell the truth. Mainstream media is a predominately white industry meaning they cater to white people. According to oxfordbibliographies.com, “The black press is a critical — but often ignored — aspect of African American history and culture.” Black-owned and operated newspapers differentiate from mainstream media because it is specifically for African-Americans. Because we don’t get the information and entertainment from mainstream media, I feel like black-owned and operated media is the best outlet for us.
